We live in a technology-driven world. Increasingly, mental health professionals face ethical dilemmas related to the use of technology, distance counseling, and social media in counseling practice.The program will provide an overview of the major recent changes to technology, social media, and distance counseling as it relates to legal and ethical responsibilities in counselor and social work practice. Participants will review relevant sections of the Ohio Revised Code related to ethical counselor and social work practice. Participants will also learn about HIPAA and the HITECH ACT and how it may impact clinical practice. Participants will review real-world case examples related to ethical issues in technology, distance counseling, and social media. The presenters will provide an overview of proactive strategies and best practices to avoid potential ethical quandaries.
